About the Candidate
Hey everyone! My name is Arani Naguleswaran and I'm running to be your next OTSU President! In the past year, I have had the pleasure of becoming the founder and president of the Active Minds chapter (a mental health awareness club) at OTU. As OTSU President, one of my main goals would be to improve the mental health services we offer on campus. In addition to this, I want to make sure us students are getting the best resources available to make our school lives easier and efficient. This includes advocating for a shuttle bus service for students, taking more precautions to ensure you and your belongings are safe at all times, providing services to help graduating students find employment, and much more! Let's join hands and create #NewRoads.

Student Support
In the past, we've tried the peer to mentor approach but that didn't work. Mental health is something that is not prioritized enough by our school and it's time to change that. As President, I would like to bring that change by replacing the peer to mentor approach, with a peer to peer approach. As President, I would like to implement:
Online Mental Health Workshops & Videos
an opportunity for students to get a basic training on specific mental health topics from the comfort of their home
QPR - how to Question a person with thoughts of suicide, how to Persuade them to get help, and how to Refer the person to appropriate resources
Safetalk Training - Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe
What to expect when reporting sexual harassment and taking it to court

Ways of Thinking
An educational video that guides you to prevent having harmful automatic thoughts (road rage) and steer away from negativity as a whole
Consent Comes First
a resource for both victims of sexual violence and those who are dedicated to offering support
How to give help:
Begin by listening
Respect confidentiality
Ask what support looks like
Validate them
Empathize
How to get help:

Share with someone
Seek medical care
Connect with support
work with local organizations to bring awareness to what CONSENT is and is not
